Meet the Brand

The client is a consumer grooming product company developing a compact electric trimmer for market launch. The product required a high-precision outer housing for ergonomic testing, internal component alignment, and aesthetic evaluation before committing to injection mould tooling. The objective was to validate form, fit and structural strength while maintaining production-grade surface quality for presentation and functional assessment.

The Challenge

The trimmer housing included thin-walled sections, internal PCB mounting bosses, screw posts, and alignment features that demanded tight dimensional control. Achieving a smooth cosmetic finish while preserving mechanical strength and snap fit compatibility within a short development timeline posed a technical challenge.

The Solution

SLA resin 3D printing was selected for its high resolution capability and ability to reproduce fine features with consistent wall thickness. The process enabled production of detailed internal geometries and presentation-grade outer surfaces without the cost or delay of injection mould tooling.

Implementation

CAD files were optimised for resin orientation and support strategy to minimise post-processing marks. Printing parameters were calibrated to maintain dimensional stability and wall strength. Post-processing included support removal, UV curing, and surface finishing for functional fit testing.

Result

The prototype achieved near production-grade aesthetics and dimensional precision, eliminating early-stage tooling uncertainty. Rapid validation cycles compressed development timelines and positioned the product for confident transition into injection mould manufacturing.
